Loza Tam Satin Lined Headband
I've decided 2017 will be the year that I get more serious about my yoga practice. I love how it makes me feel and look so I'm going to make it a regular part of my workout routine. One issue I have whenever I go to class however, is my hair! When you are flowing through the various positions, the last thing you want is your hair flying all over the place. There have been one too many instances where I've stepped on my hair, or a few locs got caught up in my bind. So I figured my best bet was to wear my hair in a high ponytail. The ponytail works until we get into inversions, especially headstands. I will often find myself working to take out my ponytail so I can stand on my head, and by the time its all said and done we are moving on to something else. That has been my yoga hair story until this weekend.
You've probably concluded from my Satin Lined Cap and Outre wig posts that I'm pretty big on protecting my tresses. So of course I find it important to protect my hair while I'm working out. This weekend I put on a satin lined headband by Loza Tam before heading to class. The headband is handmade in Ghana, which explains the beautiful fabric. It is adjustable in width, has a snug fit, and the best part, it is satin lined! I was elated when my locs stayed in place throughout class. When it was time to get into my headstand, I was able to do so without a second thought! While this will be my official yoga headband, I have to admit that it is also really fashionable and fun. After class I wore it to run errands and also to keep my hair out of my face while cooking.
A fun gem about Loza Tam, it was founded by a Howard Alum! Similar to myself, she had a hard time keeping her hair out of the way during her Bikram yoga classes. Unable to find a sensible and safe solution, she created her own. How admirable and inspirational is that?! Not only did she create a solution to her problem and the problem of others, she is empowering the Ghanaian entrepreneurs that make each headband. Also from what I understand, satin lined turbans will be available March 2017! I'm looking forward to checking the turbans out when they are available.
My Letter of Rec: Do what makes you feel good! I woke up Saturday morning with the worst migraine. I wanted to stay in bed, but something told me I should go to yoga class. I always feel great in and after class, so maybe it would help with my migraine. It worked like a charm! The intention the instructor set for class was "Be open to possibilities," which is so fitting for my trial headache relief as well as getting back into my practice. I'll share my journey with you guys so you can keep me honest :) Check out the satin lined headbands in the various patterns offered by Loza Tam!
