I’ve been living without cable for about 2yrs now.  In addition to the financial savings, I’ve kept more brain cells by not watching some of the less savory television shows.  Every now and again, however, I do give in to my guilty pleasure... Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s.  This is season 10 and everyone gets more and more fabulous by the episode. How is that possible?!

Anywho, while I watch I am in disbelief by the 24/7 glam.  Who has time to contour and highlight that early in the morning??  I call it a good day if I think to put lipstick on before work. Lol  Considering most of my nights are restless, I have a limited amount of time once I’ve hit my snooze maximum.  My daily makeup routine in order of importance; brows, concealer, and blush.  Mascara used to be in that line up until I found the miracle that is Novalash.

Whenever I’ve wanted to go full glam, the icing on the cake was fake lashes.  I really enjoyed the aesthetic of a good fake lash and even contemplated wearing eyelash strips daily.  I know it’s crazy.  But Sephora and CVS got a lot of lash and lash glue purchases out of me so I figured, why not?  The why not is really because I suck at applying lashes lmao.  I’d for sure be at work with lash glue all over my eyelid had I tried wearing lash strips every day.

Luckily there is a solution for people like me who want long lashes every day but don’t want to take the lash strip route.  I started getting lash extensions in May 2017.  Since then, I’ve only gone one month without due to poor planning on my end.  Needless to say, I’m obsessed.  My lash extensions have totally transformed my “fresh face” although one can argue that it’s not really a fresh face if I have extensions.  Those people are haters. JK.

I wasn’t blessed with long lashes but after my lash extension application, I don’t think anyone would guess.  I can tell people are nervous to ask about my lashes out of fear of being offensive.  It’s beyond flattering so I’m happy to let them know I have extensions before they even get the question out.

The initial application takes 2hrs give or take.  The lashes are so light that you don’t even feel them which is great.  The extensions fall out when your natural lash falls out.  It’s kinda cool to see actually because you can tell that the extensions were applied meticulously.  The individual extensions also help the lashes last even longer because you don’t lose them all at once.  I often stretch my fill-in to four weeks, although my lash tech isn’t happy when I do that (shrug).  On good behavior, I go in at the 3-week mark for a 60-minute fill-in.

I get my extensions done by Dionne, the owner of Mane Element.   The black-owned salon is nestled in the Golden Triangle right off the DuPont Circle metro stop at 1234 19th st NW.  I will not lie to you, it is a pricey habit. I’ve decided to give up my regular manicures to keep my lashes up.  A fresh set will run you just over $200 with fill-ins ranging from $75-$95.

I don’t have a glam squad like the Kardashians, but my lash extensions make me feel and look just as fabulous.  They have also cut time out of my makeup routine which is great for whoever is waiting for me to get ready.  All in all, I’m hooked especially given how my lash extensions make me look!

My Letter of Rec: Do what makes you feel fabulous!  We work hard and do for other people, nothing wrong with doing something for yourself.  That varies from person to person.  It might be your hair, nails, a massage, or maybe a new pair of shoes every so often.  Whatever it is, you deserve it.  Check out Mane Element here, and let me know what you think!
